Crustal Anisotropy Beneath the Trans-North China Orogen and its Adjacent Areas From Receiver Functions

چکیده
As an important segment of the North China Craton, Trans-North Orogen (TNCO) has experienced strong tectonic deformation and magmatic activities since Cenozoic is characterized by significant seismicity. To understand mechanism crustal seismic hazards, we determined thickness ( H ), Vp / Vs ratio κ ) anisotropy (the fast polarization direction φ splitting time τ beneath TNCO its adjacent areas analyzing receiver function data recorded a dense array. Crustal anisotropy across northern Japan from receiver functions
Northern Japan is a tectonically active area, with the presence of several volcanoes, and with frequent earthquakes among which the destructive Mw = 8.9-9.0 Tohoku-oki occurred on 11 March 2011. Tectonic activity leaves an imprint on the crustal structures, on both the upper and the lower layers. To investigate the crust in northern Japan, we construct a receiver function data set using telese...
متن کاملthe crustal structure beneath the northwest of the zagros (kermanshah region) from teleseismic receiver functions
in this study, we used teleseismic data which was recorded by 5 stations (dhr, ghg, kom, lin and vis) of the kermanshah seismic network from 2003 to 2007 with mb?5.5 and epicentral distances from 30° to 95°. the crustal structure beneath these stations was determined by the modeling of the p receiver functions. the main phases, which were observed in our final p receiver functions, are moho con...
متن کاملSeismic anisotropy beneath the Afar Depression and adjacent areas: Implications for mantle flow
[1] Shear wave splitting is a robust tool to infer the direction and strength of seismic anisotropy in the lithosphere and underlying asthenosphere. Previous shear wave splitting studies in the Afar Depression and adjacent areas concluded that either Precambrian sutures or vertical magmatic dikes are mostly responsible for the observed anisotropy. Here we report results of a systematic analysis...
متن کاملConstraining Crustal Anisotropy by Receiver Functions at the Deep Continental Drilling Site KTB in Southern Germany
As one of the rare observational tools for studying deformation and stress within the Earth, seismic anisotropy has been one of the focuses of geophysical studies over the last decade. In order to unravel the anisotropic properties of the crust, the teleseismic receiver functions (RF) methodology has started to be widely applied recently. Such effects of anisotropy on RF were illustrated in the...
